Default Mein kampf ?

What is the best English language translation of Mein Kampf ?

Wasn't the original book published in two volumes?

The English editions are all one volume. Is this due to a bunch of stuff being edited out?

I have all the various translations (including German and Russian) if you need them but they shouldn't be too difficult to find.

Volume One of Mein Kampf was released on July 18, 1925. Volume Two was subsequently published on December 10, 1926. So, initially the two volumes were published separately.

However, after the initial press runs were exhausted, the two volumes were combined in a single book. The combined edition had 781 numbered pages, plus a one page Forward, a one page Dedication and a one page Conclusion, for a total of 784 pages. Yes, it was a hefty tome!

There are numerous English translations available today. All of them are complete (with one exception which I discuss below), although the Dalton and Ford translations inexplicably omit the one-page Forward. This is a shame, as this short introduction by the author is an historical document in itself. In it, Hitler explains his reasons for writing his book, and what he hopes it will accomplish.

There is a lot of discussion and controversy surrounding the various translations. I will not rehash that debate here. I will, however, give my own recommendations.
  • The Ralph Manheim translation is the one which is the most precise, and which best captures the spirit of Hitler's exposition. But some readers find it difficult to read.
  • The new Dalton translation is more readable for lazy Americans, and it is easier to navigate. The author has released it in three different editions: (1) a two-volume English only translation; (2) two-volume German-English parallel text edition, with the German language original on the left-hand pages, and the author's corresponding translation on the right; and (3) a condensed "best of" translation for readers who only want the highlights, and not the full text.
But really, if you are deeply interested in Mein Kampf, there is no need to limit yourself to just one translation - you may obtain, two, three, or more, if it suits you!

I have the 'Stalag' edition of Mein Kampf, which is available from The Barnes Review magazine. It is called the Stalag edition because it is the English-language version of the book provided to Allied prisoners in WW2. It is free of big kike Abe Foxman's foreward in the more recent Manheim editions and other denigrating footnotes about Hitler. But I second Jim Harting's suggestion above to obtain various editions if that suits you and works for you.

The only version available on Amazon is the Mannheim edition, which appears to be the official Jew edition and which they ( what a surprise ) make money off of.
