Animal abuse videos go viral on Twitter, raising content moderation concerns

Gruesome animal abuse videos have been widely circulating on Twitter in recent weeks, raising concerns about how the social media giant monitors its content with Elon Musk at the helm, according to a report.

One particularly disturbing video that has gained traction appears to show a live kitten being placed inside of a blender and killed, NBC News reported.

A concerned parent from London told the outlet she discovered the sickening footage after hearing about it from her preteen son.

Laura Clemens, 46, said that her 11-year-old son came home from school and mentioned something about a cat in a blender clip on Twitter.

The mother went on the platform and typed in “cat.”

The search box automatically suggested she search “cat in a blender,” she said.

When she clicked on the suggested search, the graphic video instantly appeared, she told NBC.

The outlet replicated the process and quickly found the clip on Wednesday.

By Friday, Twitter appeared to have disabled autocomplete suggestions in the search bar.

Clemens said she was glad her son came and told her about it first before finding the video on his own with a simple “cat” search.

“I’m glad that my child has talked to me, but there must be lots of parents whose kids just look it up,” she said.

Elon Musk subpoenaed in suit over JPMorgan ties to Jeffrey Epstein

The US Virgin Islands has subpoenaed Tesla CEO Elon Musk for documents in its lawsuit accusing JPMorgan Chase of helping enable sexual abuses by late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to a Monday court filing in US District Court in Manhattan, the Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Musk on April 28.

The filing said Musk, one of the richest people in the world, may have been referred to JPMorgan by Epstein.

It did not provide further explanation for its interest in obtaining documents from Musk.

Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The US Virgin Islands accuses JPMorgan of missing red flags about Epstein’s abuse of women on Little St. James, a private island he owned there.

That so-called entourage (along with Jeffrey Epstein himself) ended up being granted a private tour of SpaceX in 2012, and many people think Kimbal was responsible.

WPP-owned GroupM, one of the world’s top media agencies, has told clients it no longer considers Twitter “high risk”, just days after Elon Musk appointed advertising stalwart Linda Yaccarino as the social media platform’s new chief.

Musk last week announced he hired Yaccarino, NBCUniversal’s former head of advertising, to run Twitter while he stays on as chief technology officer and executive chair.

The move marked a push to woo back dozens of major advertisers who deserted the platform over Musk’s unorthodox leadership style and looser content moderation following his $44bn acquisition. The exodus wiped about 50 per cent off Twitter’s $5bn-a-year revenues.

In November, GroupM designated Twitter as “high risk” over its fears about the platform. But on Monday, the agency removed that classification, said three people familiar with the situation, a decision that is likely to encourage its clients to increase ad spending again.

Most big firms spend a certain percentage of revenues on advertising. Most firms probably couldn't hazard a decent guess as to the effectiveness of their advertising if they really had to.

Neuralink aims to solve a range of medical complaints by implanting a chip into a subject’s skull

Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain implant company which hopes to use its technology to treat conditions such as paralysis and blindness, has been cleared to conduct human trials after it received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the firm announced on Thursday.

“We are excited to share that we have received the FDA’s approval to launch our first in-human clinical study,” Neuralink said in a post on Twitter. Musk had predicted on several prior occasions that the technology would be cleared for testing, but a previous application in early 2022 was denied by the FDA, scientists who worked on the project told Reuters in March.

The approval is “an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people,” the company said, and is “the result of incredible work by the Neuralink team in close collaboration with the FDA.”
